Portitxol & La Barraca
Day trips & surroundings

Portitxol is one of the classic coastal stops in southern Javea: pale rock, pebbles, sea and the island directly in front of the cove. The official tourism site describes La Barraca as a rugged cove of pebbles, stones and rock between Cap Prim and Cap Negre, giving it a very different feel from a conventional sandy beach.

Island view

The Illa del Portitxol lies directly in front of the cove and defines the view.

Rugged coastline

Pebbles, rock and the sheltered cove create a distinctly Mediterranean landscape.

Coastal route

Portitxol combines easily with Creu del Portitxol, Cap Negre and Balcon al Mar.

01

La Barraca or Portitxol?

Both names are used for the same stretch of coast, so maps and guidebooks may refer to either Cala Barraca or Cala Portitxol. The setting is what stands out: the cove lies between prominent headlands, while the island just offshore naturally draws the eye.

02

Sea, photos and an easy stop

Portitxol works for a swim but also as a short stop on a route. For a compact outing, combine the Creu del Portitxol viewpoint with the cove. During busy months it is worth checking the current access situation before setting off.

03
